FAQ's-Questions We Are Continually Asked

Since we announced this news to our family and friends, there have been lots of questions. Here is our best attempt to answer the most popular ones we have received: 1. Why are you converting to Anglicanism?          TJ: The simple answer is that I have sensed a calling to the priesthood. While I experienced a call to the ministry over a decade ago, I wasn't sure exactly about what facet of ministry I would land in. So, I did a lot of youth ministry since my calling because I was very passionate about sharing God's love with teenagers.  While working as a Youth Minister I began to feel a pull towards something else and I didn't quite realize what this meant until recently.  Why Anglicanism?  Anglicanism embodies priestly ministry in such a way that I can fully connect with. Anglicans treasure the notion of "Via Media," which means "balance."  They hold a lot of things in the balance (both ancient and modern, liturgical but ...

Stress and Prayer

Our house went on the market recently. Our cute little house in a cute little cul-de-sac. This is the first home we bought together – we fell in love with the vaulted ceilings and sunroom the minute we walked in. Never mind the cedar siding that needed to be replaced, or the rotting deck out back, or the nasty carpet in the basement, or the random repairs that the previous owner had rigged. We loved the location and the neighborhood, and worked to make the house our own. We painted, replaced flooring, replaced siding, fixed the roof and deck, replaced windows, and planted flowers. It was – and still is – the cutest home we could have imagined for ourselves. Then, we found out I was pregnant with our first baby. We created his room ourselves. We cleared out the furniture, picked paint and new furniture, bought curtains, replaced trim, decorated, and organized. We had just finished washing and hanging all his little clothes in the closet when Jason was born. We walked through ...

The "Why" of Anglican Liturgy

In the short video below, Bishop Todd Hunter elaborates on Anglican liturgy and why it is so important in terms of shaping people in the way of Christ.  I really liked the angle that he approaches the topic from and thought I would share.

Would you like to help support us?

We are asking for people to consider making donations to help us with the expense of seminary. We are looking to raise around $7,000 for this year. There are two ways you can give if you are interested in helping: 1) You can contact Molly Mcfazden in the seminary office .  Mmcfazden@nashotah.edu 262-646-6507 2)  You can also go directly to the seminary's website and make a donation: https://www.nashotah.edu/support/tyler-jason-humphrey . This site makes it easy to make a donation and provides different options. Thank you for your generosity and for helping our family! God bless! TJ

Bishop Salmon Laid to Rest

I (TJ) wish to begin this blog by paying my respects.  The Rt. Rev. Edward Salmon passed away recently.  He was a Bishop and the 19th Dean of Nashotah House Seminary.  He is also the reason I felt the call to go to Nashotah.  I first heard about the seminary while listening to a lecture from one of my favorite theologians, N.T. Wright.  He spoke very highly of the institution and how it held unwaveringly to the more "Catholic" side of Anglicanism.  Since Wright was (and still is) one of my favorite theologians, I had to look more into this school which he so enthusiastically endorsed.  So, a few years ago, I felt like I needed to start thinking more seriously about continuing my education but none of the seminaries out there really appealed to me.  They all seem to promote this notion that the human person is nothing more than a "brain on a stick."  I didn't see how one learned ministry in a classroom.  Furthermore, so much of seminary s...
